The Art of Genuine Conversations

This morning I was thinking about the concept of conversation and how people interact in conversations. We all know someone that is extremely talkative and sometimes we try to just get through a conversation with them by acting like we are listening. We say the usual mhmm or really? This is called backchanneling.

In college I took a whole class on how these words are important to show that you are following along in the conversation. If someone isnt typically using those words then chances are, they arent really listening.

Nowadays, are people really listening to each other or are they just wanting to respond? I think that since society has such a go go go attitude, we really struggle to sit down and talk to people. We really need to change this concept and listen when someone is talking to you.

Here at WSS I walk past the conference rooms where the Attorneys and Paralegals are meeting with clients. They have very busy schedules from having conference calls with the BWC or just coming in from a hearing for another client, yet they still want to sit and hear the concerns. When you come in for your initial consultation, you sit down with one of these attorneys and have genuine conversations. Let me tell you, we listen. Everyone here wants to hear what is going on in your life so that we can help you and get you compensated. That is what makes us unique. Our backchanneling words may be there, but you can tell, we are here to listen to you.
