I’m Ashley Starling with Willis Spangler Starling and this is your weekly winter safety tip. This week, we’re talking about the misnomer called black ice. I hate that term. I hate that term, because black ice does not exist. It’s simply ice you cannot see. It can occur on sidewalks. It can occur on blacktops, which is why it’s named black ice.

But the bottom line is that you always have to be cognizant that when the temperature is below freezing, there may be ice outside. So as you back out of your driveway, as you go across roads and bridges, please remember there can be ice at any time. And always remember the bridges freeze faster than regular blacktop. Again, I’m Ashley Starling with Willis Spangler Starling and this is your weekly winter safety tip.
